Eat better and reduce your impact to this planet
This is my gift to you for a better 2020…
A series of posts where I am going to share with you what you can do to reduce your personal impact in the planet.
We start with food because this is where you can make the most impact! This is thanks to Babette Porcelijn who wrote The Hidden Impact. Read her book, it changed my life.
🌿 Become vegetarian or vegan
🐔 Miss eating meat? The choose for chicken or pork
📍Choose local meats
🐟 Fish? buy with quality mark MSC or ASC
↘️ Very important: Consume 40% less than you are use to eating
🚫 Never throw meat away
🍃 Buy organic meat
🐣 Have a vegetarian pet like chickens
📌 Choose for local veggies and fruits. Want to buy out of season? Choose preservable
🥒 Choose veggies & fruits with as little plastic as possible unless it is used to protect. Avoid over-packaging!
❗Choose “almost expired” food or the supermarket will throw it away. Consume it as fast as possible
⛩️ Choose sustainable restaurants: vegetarian, local ingredients, from the season ingredients, organic or from supermarket’s leftovers
⛔ Don’t throw away any food leftovers. Keep them in glass containers with plastic lids
😰 Over expiration date? Don’t throw it away. Check first if they are still ok to eat.
To wrap-up: if you are in a dilema and don’t know what to buy, then try to remember:
1️⃣ what to choose first: Vegetable → Dairy → Fish → Meat.
2️⃣what to choose secondly: fresh, raw, in season (coming from your country) →preservable from your country → local greenhouse, fresh → world fresh by boat → world preservable → world fresh by plane
Let me know if it helps and you have any tip on how to apply these points. For example I go to the local farmer store to buy my veggies and fruit instead of the supermarket to avoid one time use plastic.
