BAZZde GRANT

Bio

Thea Grant and BAZZ by Thea Grant jewelry collections are a collaboration in design and exploration of artistic form by husband and wife duo Thea Grant and Nicolás Bazzani.

United under the studio name, BAZZdeGRANT, Bazzani and Grant’s collections combine their art-world roots with mannerisms adopted from traditional jewelry. The result is a thriving design studio attracting a broad audience including the fashion, design and media worlds.

Bazzani, native to Bogotá, Colombia, received a Masters in Product Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Grant, a Brooklyn local, graduated as a sculptor and Classics scholar from Brown University. They met in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2004 and found that a harmonious partnership sprang up immediately.

The Thea Grant collection has long held pace at the forefront of statement-making ‘found-object’ and haute ‘green’ jewelry. BAZZ meanwhile, a delicate, fine metals collection, more subtly exudes an erstwhile ethos. Each brand maintains the core BAZZdeGRANT ideology of re-contextualizing and re-using obsolete objects, curios, lost treasure and un-used caches of accessories found off the beaten track.

Grant and Bazzani bring new life to bygone materials and champion thought-provoking and story-telling designs intended to enhance and highlight the inner elegance and individuality of the wearer.

A visit to BAZZdeGRANT studio at DUMBO Brooklyn…

At their studio I felt like a girl in a candy store for my eyes: full of one-of-a-kind jewellery, so special that you
immediately wanted to have it all
Nico’s atelier full of vintage chains, working tools and lost and found pieces.   A place for family time, creativity and art. There I learned that the family travels around the country looking for lost and found art for their jewellery. For example they found old stock of glass pearls made in Japan during the 50′s   You can find them every weekend at Brooklyn’s Flea Market, with all the must-have vintage brands in New York.   Thea in action at their stand!

It was a fantastic experience seeing
Nico’s work alive. Hand-stamping cuffs,
necklaces, money clips, besides others
with antique smithing tools.

Social & Environmental Impact

Thea and Nico are the only employees of Bazz de Grant. They eat organic, double print and reduce as much as possible the use of energy. They use wind energy, recycled paper and avoid using plastic.
Their core activity is making pieces of jewelry by re-using vintage pieces: this are post-consumer waste and we upcycle them by making this high-end jewelery pieces. Their packaging is as much as possible recycled paper. What vary is the % of recycled. This according to availability in the market.

All of their suppliers are based in NYC area, so ILO conventions are applied. All pieces are hand-made.

They did a project for schooling for unprivileged children: developed a product and the profit went to this project.
